The French League calls for “collective action” after the problems of Nice-Marseille supporters

Sunday evening, the local supporters invaded the lawn and faced the visitor Dimitri Payet, who had returned a bottle lobed by the crowd.

A brawl then broke out involving players and spectators.

“The scenes of very regrettable violence (…) remind us that the security during football matches and the control of certain supporters are particularly complex”, wrote the president of the LFP Vincent Labrune to the ministers of the interior, of law and education as well as its delegate in charge. Sport.

“The LFP is quite limited in its capacity to master the problems of violence and public order.

“It is, indeed, essential that the troublemakers are significantly punished and this requires collective action from clubs, authorities, local and national government and also, especially the law,” he added.

The LFP also mentioned objects thrown onto the pitch during Marseille’s match in Montpellier on August 8 and during Rennes’ home match with Nantes on Sunday as well as crowd problems in three other high-profile fixtures this season.

Later, Nice Eco Stadium (NES), which manages the pitch, told AFP that a net between the pitch and the crowd will be set up behind a goal to catch objects thrown by supporters.

NES said work on the south stand would take two weeks and would be ready for the visit to Montpellier on November 7.

Earlier, US Marseille owner Franck McCourt said he supported his side’s decision to leave the Allianz Riviera stadium pitch this weekend.

After the incidents on the south coast, local authorities in Nice opened investigations and the police arrested a man.

On Wednesday, Marseille and Nice will appear before a disciplinary committee of the LFP with the behavior of their players, coaches and managers under discussion.
