Newell’s Old Boys heartfelt message means Marcelo Bielsa’s impact at Leeds United

Newell’s Old Boys have issued a heartfelt message following news that Leeds United have sacked Marcelo Bielsa.

The club confirmed in a statement that they have parted ways with the 66-year-old after three and a half years.

After joining the Whites in June 2018, Bielsa totally transformed Leeds on and off the pitch and brought them back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years in his second season.

However, the results have not been favorable to the Whites this campaign, winning five times in 25 top-flight appearances which inevitably led to Bielsa’s departure.

We’ve had our say on this, but we want to hear from you, the fans. After all, you are the cornerstone of Leeds United.

There is no doubt that the 66-year-old will go down as one of Leeds’ greatest managers in recent history and he is fondly remembered on social media for the work he did at Elland Road.

And the first club Bielsa managed in his career, Newell’s Old Boys, shared a message on his English Twitter account to highlight the relationship between the clubs.

A statement read: “Marcelo Bielsa’s departure from Leeds United Football Club is a bittersweet moment for many. We have seen in the first half how many Leeds fans have followed the same path as us, as well as Chile fans, of Athletic and Marseille, becoming disciples of the man we call “El Loco”.

“His personality, tactical knowledge, intelligence, coaching methods, man management and dedication to a fair and just society have allowed Leeds fans to experience what Newell fans have known for a decade. And that’s wonderful.

“As Leeds fans have fallen in love with Marcelo, they have also opened their hearts to our club, Newell’s Old Boys. For that we are eternally grateful. The last 3½ years have seen Bielsa build a bridge between our clubs and our cities. It is a bridge that simply cannot be burned overnight.

“We would like to thank Leeds United fans for their interest, support, questions and intrigue around the club where Marcelo made his name.

“Special thanks to those who came to see us in Rosario and to those who bought our shirt. Newell’s will always have a special relationship with Bielsa but your club will go down in history because Marcelo did some of his finishing work and enjoyed some of his happiest moments, choosing to stay at Leeds longer than he has ever stayed at any club before, including ours. The popularity and success of this particular Twitter account has been built on the relationship between Leeds, Bielsa and Newell’s fans and we hope you will always keep an eye on our results.

“No matter what happens next, Leeds United fans are always welcome at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa in Rosario. You could say that our two clubs will be forever linked by Bielsa.”
