Marseille supporters stormed the club’s Robert Louis-Dreyfus training ground to stage a protest ahead of their Ligue 1 game against Rennes – which has now been postponed accordingly.

Fans gathered and marched to the complex on Saturday afternoon equipped with flares.

Videos circulated on social media with fireworks set off by angry fans who raided the entrance gates of the complex.

Another video shows fans walked through the front doors and out of the complex with their faces covered.

Provence reported that fans set a tree on fire and sprayed the entrance to the complex with smoke bombs, firecrackers and fireworks.

While RMC added that 25 supporters were arrested and a number of supporters managed to breach security to walk through the front door and enter the training complex.

It is not known if any coaches or players were at the center at the time of the incident.

The situation calmed down and the scene of the riot was photographed outside the entrance to the complex.

Messages were seen on the walls outside the training ground with messages including “Eyraud out, Eyraud is leaving, advice is motherfuckers”.

Marseille were due to face Rennes at 8:00 p.m. GMT, but shortly after 5:00 p.m. it was confirmed that the game was now called off.

The match of the 22nd day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats between Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais FC has been postponed.

“In view of the incidents that occurred this afternoon at the Olympique de Marseille training center, the OM – Stade Rennais FC match (22nd matchday in Ligue 1 Uber Eats) has been postponed to a later date.”

Marseille fans are believed to be angry with the recent form of the squad which lost momentum when they were in the title race in November.

The club have lost their last four consecutive games in all competitions and have won just three of their last ten league games.

Marseille currently occupies eighth place in Ligue 1 with 32 points on the table, 14 points behind the Lyon leader.

The supporters are also against Marseille President Jacques-Henri Eyraud and want him to leave the club.

Speaking earlier in the week, manager Andre Villas-Boas believed his days at the club were numbered. According to The Sun, he said, “It looks like the end. I think it will all be over in June.

“I’m not demanding anything because looking at where we are would not be fair. And I think everyone is okay with that.
