French Ligue 1 title race
PSG absolutely topped the league last season with a 15-point cushion over nearest rivals Marseille and it’s hard to see a team presenting them with a real challenge ahead of this season.
However, at -1000, PSG present little value in this market and we will instead single out a team we were high on last year as a potential underdog, Monaco, who could go far this season.
Monaco started last year in 10th position and were forced to rally in the second half of the season, ranking as the best team in the league overall, even over PSG, from December 1 for eventually finishing third in the league.
Monaco have one of the most dynamic and young squads in all of Ligue 1 with a solid mix of experience up front to balance that youthfulness with Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland.
While we don’t see them having enough to knock PSG off the throne this season, at +350 to finish 2nd (or the market “to win without PSG”), it’s a game we like the value of before the new season.
European qualification
The top 3 is the most common betting market in the French Ligue 1 instead of the top 4 like other top European leagues, as France only gets three automatic places in the Champions League. It’s no surprise that we return to the good of the team we described earlier in this article Monaco as the team best placed to repeat their feat from last year.
Monaco are +125 to finish in the top 3 this season, and we think that’s a solid game.
Ligue 1 relegation odds
After a brilliant start to last season which saw Montpellier finish fifth in the league with 31 points accumulated from just their opening 19 games, the wheels have well and truly dropped out of ‘La Paillade’ season, picking up just 12 points in total. all the rest of the year. , by far the league’s worst goal.
The data confirms that Montpellier have collapsed and they ranked as the second worst team on xPTS from January 1, ahead of relegated lone Metz, and have racked up just one win in the last three months of the season as well.
With Montpellier adding very little to their off-season squad to make up for that, +300 looks like solid value for the Mediterranean side to descend into the French Ligue 1 this year.
