Lyons: A heavily exhausted Lyon came from behind to beat visitors Marseille 2-1 in the French top flight on Tuesday with Xherdan Shaqiri scoring and assisting for the hosts.

The defeat prevented Marseille from climbing into second place in Ligue 1, led by PSG on 53 points, while Nice have 42 in second and Marseille 40 in third.

The game was played with no fans allowed in the stadium after the original November game had to be abandoned when a player was hit by a projectile from the stands.

Marseille came into the game after five away wins and were heavy favorites due to injuries and absences for international duty in the depleted Lyon squad.

Matteo Guendouzi gave the visitors a 1-0 lead from a corner in ten minutes, but Shaqiri equalized on 76 before his pass found Moussa Dembele for a throw-in on 86 minutes.

Former Celtic striker Dembele had been declared ill but was drafted into the battered line-up in a gamble that paid off.

Marseille looked exhausted at the end and coach Jorge Sampaoli said he saw a lot of things he didn’t like.

“We will first see who we can rely on for the next game,” he said of their Ligue 1 home game against Angers on Friday.

Lyon have climbed to seventh place, but are only one point behind fourth-placed Strasbourg.
