Brilliant Banda propels Zambia to big win

FORWARD Barbra Banda scored five goals as Zambia qualified for the semi-finals of the 2022 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship with a resounding 7-0 win over Lesotho at Nelson Mandela Bay’s Madibaz Stadium on Sunday.

Banda was deadly in front of goal as she took her tally in the tournament to seven in just two games to lead the goalscoring charts.

Evarine Katongo and Siomala Mapepa also scored for the Copper Queens, who underscored their status as pre-tournament favorites, having brought with them many of the players who won them bronze at the recent African Cup of Nations. Women’s Nations.

They have secured a place in the semi-finals so can relax in their final pool game against Eswatini on Tuesday.

Ivone Kooper scored a brace for Namibia as they beat Eswatini 5-1, including an excellent opener as she lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.

It was 2-0 midway through the first half when Memory Ngonda beat Eswatini keeper Gcinile Dlamini at the near post.

Eswatini pulled a goal back just before half-time when Sisanda Ndzinisa drilled the ball deep just inside the box. But Namibia scored three more times in the second half when Kooper added their second, and three minutes later Veweziwa Kotjipati added a fourth.

Zenatha Coleman had missed a penalty earlier in the half but the second round was converted from 12 yards out after having another late opportunity.
