ATP Marseille Day 1 Predictions including Gasquet vs Ymer

The swing on the indoor hard courts after the Australian Open continues and the ATP Tour returns to the thrilling fast courts of Marseille for the 2022 edition. The atmosphere should be electric with a packed draw ready to compete. We preview and predict the three Round of 16 matches scheduled for you.

ATP Marseille Day 1 Predictions

Henri Laaksonen vs. Stefano Travaglia

Face to face – First meeting

Neither player has started 2022 well and with this week’s draw, any match win they get should be a bonus. Henri Laaksonen would certainly appreciate the faster conditions more than Stefano Travaglia. The Swiss tennis player is capable of producing super attacking tennis on both sides and I count on him to do so against the Italian.
Prediction: Laaksonen in 2

Norbert Gombos vs Ilya Ivashka

Face to face – First meeting

Norbert Gombos is coming off a decent Australian Open 2022, having qualified and reaching the second round afterwards. Ilya Ivashka lost in the second round in Rotterdam and although Ivashka is the higher ranked player, Gombos enters this match in a much better headspace. Expect Ivashka to make a game of it, but Gombos looks set for victory here.
Prognosis: Okra in 3

Richard Gasquet versus Mikael Ymer

Head to head – Gasquet 0-2 Ymer

Richard Gasquet would surely have liked a different player to face in his opener here. Mikael Ymer beat him twice in two games and most recently in Montpellier. The Swede is an exciting young talent and his attack pairs well with the Marseille courts. Expect Gasquet to struggle again and Ymer to present a solid opening here.
Prediction: Ymer in 2
