Head coach Steven Gerrard will look to the transfer window after watching his side lose 4-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. It was Villa’s fourth straight loss and further underscored the job Gerrard faces this summer as he seeks to turn Villa into European suitors.
Among the first names to be linked with Villa this summer is German centre-back Matthias Ginter, whose contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach is due to expire at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are said to be among the clubs ready to compete with Villa in the race to sign Philippe Coutinho permanently and Villa have scouted Geoffrey Kondogbia at Atletico Madrid.
Next up for Villa is a trip to Leicester City, led by Gerrard’s former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. Villa could be without left-back Lucas Digne for this game – and for the rest of the season – after the Frenchman sustained a collarbone injury in the dying moments of the loss to Tottenham.
