Arsenal: Balogun hits the mark in Reims
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is relishing life on loan at Reims in Ligue 1 and would like to follow in the footsteps of his Arsenal team-mate William Saliba.
Saliba spent last season at Marseille and became a first-team regular on his return to the Emirates Stadium.
Balogun has made a great start to the season in France, scoring five goals in his first eight games to rank fourth in the top scorers list, behind Paris St-Germain’s Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
“The ideal scenario would be for me to play well, improve as a player and return to the Arsenal first team,” Balogun told BBC Sport, as he prepares for a double game against Italy and Germany with England under 21. side.
“I realize it will never be easy. I have to stay hungry and see what happens.”
Balogun spent the second half of 2021-22 on loan at Middlesbrough but scored just three times in 18 appearances.
“It was a bit of a stop-start for me,” added the 21-year-old. “I’m at an age now where it’s really important to play regularly.
“This season it was important to choose a team where I could play and show what I can do.
“There aren’t many English players in France either, so it was a different challenge. Hopefully that will pay off.”
