A teenager shot dead and two others injured in Marseille

A 14-year-old teenager was shot dead and two other minors were injured Wednesday evening in a Marseille housing estate.

The two injured children are aged 14 and 8.

The local prosecutor specified that “it was a motorcycle with two people armed with at least one assault rifle – Kalashnikov type – which fired (…) in the street”.

The prosecution did not specify whether minors were specifically targeted by armed men.

The incident occurred in the city of Marronniers, in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, one of the most disadvantaged in the city, at the entrance to a parking lot, residents told an AFP journalist. on site Thursday morning.

The investigation was handed over to the federal police.

“Judicial inquiries are ongoing, but it seems fairly obvious that the turf war to recover lucrative (drug) trafficking points is probably one of the reasons for these armed attacks,” the minister said Thursday morning. ‘Interior Gérald Darmanin during a press briefing.

He stressed that these “absolutely unacceptable acts” show “the terror which settles in neighborhoods or cities known to be the prey of drug traffickers”.

Several gunshot homicides have taken place in recent months in France’s second largest city in neighborhoods affected by drug trafficking. Eleven people have officially died since the start of the year in settling attacks in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, according to figures from the police headquarters in mid-August.

“Some traffickers have gone abroad to escape the national police, others are in prison, people want to take their place, that probably explains it,” Darmanin said.

“Beyond this despicable incident, over the past ten years, settling deaths have been halved in Marseille and I encourage the national police to continue their work to impose the republican regime on drug traffickers” , he added.
